Growing up, there was always music playing in our home. When I was young, I was gifted my first keyboard where I then taught myself how to play. That's when I discovered my love for music. My mom would always tell me stories from her high school years when played clarinet in the band. For instance, the long rehearsals, the inside jokes, and the feeling of performing with her friends. She always talked about how much fun she had and how band gave her a place to belong. Hearing how excited she was when she remembered those moments was enough convincing for me to give it a try. At my first beginning band concert, being on stage and hearing the hard work come together, made me feel excited and proud in a way I've never felt before. That concert showed me that music wasn't just a class or a hobby for me; it was something I wanted to keep doing and growing in. I want to be a music performer because it allows me to serve others through art. Music has the power to comfort, inspire, and bring people together, and through this universal language, I can help others feel understood and share emotions that words alone cannot express.

Knowing I wanted to pursue a challenging career in music performance, I focused on performance-based music classes and activities throughout my academic career. My education has included as many AP and dual enrollment classes as possible to prepare me for college-level coursework. I am very privileged to attend Baker High School in Baker, Florida, which is currently ranked an 'A+' school. Our teachers work tirelessly to ensure we are prepared for college. Participating in music performance programs at the local, regional, and state levels has strengthened my ability to collaborate with others while refining my stage presence and musical skills. These experiences have enhanced my discipline, confidence, and commitment to excellence, and have taught me the value of consistent practice, teamwork, and artistic expression.

I was fortunate to grow up in a family that believed in community service. My parents and mentors have taught me the importance of giving back my entire life. I am actively involved in community service through various volunteer efforts. My experiences include bagging groceries at Pic N Save, preparing food bags for my school's Backpack Buddies program, and assisting at the local cat shelter. I also enjoy giving back by teaching free clarinet lessons to beginning band students and providing free pitching lessons to young softball players who aspire to become pitchers. In 2024, I was selected to serve as a mentor at the Okaloosa Summer Band Camp, where I supported middle school musicians through instruction, encouragement, and leadership. Through these activities, I strive to support my community while sharing my time, skills, and passions with others.

My educational journey at Baker High School has helped me become a well-rounded person. I've learned to balance my time between my classes, extracurriculars, and home life. These experiences will continue to mold me into a successful college student.

Research consistently shows that students who participate in extracurricular activities such as, clubs, sports, music and other involvements helps students feel more connected and in touch with their school and community, which increases motivation and commitment to learning. These students often demonstrate better attendance, stronger acedemic performance, and a more positive attitude towards school. This is because extracurriculars give students a sense of purpose, belonging, and real-world application for the skills they learn in the classroom.
